Hi there. How are you doing this week? After the unexpectedly emotional events of last week, I’m all for taking it easy for a few days. This past weekend was just what I needed – a lovely and relaxing couple of days at my parents’ house. My boyfriend Adam and I drove up in time for a delicious dinner on Friday night, and we spent Saturday wine tasting amongst the beautiful, coppery, autumn-hued grape vines. We capped off the weekend with a brisk jog and delicious brunch on Sunday.
I’m trying to carry all this calm into the work week, too. To me, this means taking things one step at a time, and not putting too much pressure on myself to accomplish more than I can manage. I’m trying to slow down and enjoy the small things – a warm cup of coffee in the morning, the chilly wind whipping through my hair on my walk to work, and the beautiful, brilliant sunset. I’m excited to indulge in the first couple of episodes of the new Netflix show The Crown (I’ve heard great things…) and along with this I’m cooking up some easy, comforting food, too. Last night I made a big batch of soup, and I just had to whip up this crisp for dessert.
This pear cranberry crisp is one of my very favorite fall treats. I love how easy it is to prepare. The most difficult step is simply slicing up all of your ripe, juicy pears. Toss together some flour, sugar, butter, and oats, and this dish will be in the oven in no time. This crisp is totally unfussy and unpretentious. It may not win any prizes for the most elegant or fancy dessert out there, but it’s delicious, pure and simply. And that’s all I need this week.
